All machines at QDOS Ultrasound in Perth are 3D/4D capable.
At QDOS Ultrasound, we use top model GE ultrasound machines, known for their exceptional image quality and advanced technology. These machines enable our experienced team to provide highly detailed and accurate assessments, ensuring you receive the best possible care throughout your pregnancy journey. They also have excellent 3D/4D capability.
In ‘2D’ ultrasound, only a thin slice of the fetus is viewed at any one instant. This allows a lot of detail, and the person performing the ultrasound (the sonographer) mentally gets the third dimension by moving the probe. With 3D ultrasound, a whole series of slices are taken in quick succession. The slices are then put together to look more like a picture you would see with your eyes. To get the rapid multiple slices, each individual ultrasound slice contains diluted information.
4D is a description of 3D that tells you it is being performed live. Therefore, the fetal movement is seen.
The quality of 3D and 4D images depends on several factors, including the baby’s position, the amount of fluid around the face, and whether limbs or the umbilical cord are blocking the view. As with 2D ultrasounds, maternal build can also influence the image quality.
When the conditions are right, seeing your baby’s face in 3D can be an unforgettable experience for parents-to-be. However, it’s good to keep in mind that some minor distortions are a natural part of the imaging process.
For the best chance at clear views, we recommend arriving with a reasonably full bladder.
3D ultrasound can be a helpful way to share information with parents or doctors who may not be familiar with the detailed images provided by 2D ultrasound. While 2D scanning remains the primary tool for comprehensive assessments, 3D and 4D imaging can occasionally provide a unique perspective.
As a medical practice, we don’t offer 3D/4D ultrasounds purely for non-medical purposes. However, if your baby is in a good position during your referred ultrasound, we’re happy to provide some 3D/4D views when possible.
