Not Falling Pregnant

A gynaecology ultrasound is often requested to investigate causes of infertility.

Using abdominal and/or vaginal scans, ultrasound can identify conditions like abnormal uterine development, fibroids, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, or swollen tubes. Accurate interpretation of these findings requires an experienced ultrasound practitioner and O&G specialist.

At QDOS Ultrasound Perth, we provide expert imaging to support your doctor in diagnosing and managing infertility.

If you’re experiencing delays in falling pregnant, your doctor may request a gynaecological scan to assess your anatomy, check ovarian egg activity, or detect any underlying conditions.

At QDOS Ultrasound Perth, we combine the expertise of sonographers and doctors. As trained gynaecologists, our doctors know just what information your fertility doctors need. They have the experience to recognise the wide variety of normal ovarian appearances, to reduce the need for ‘second check’ scans.

An abdominal ultrasound provides a broad overview and works best with a full bladder, while a vaginal ultrasound (performed after bladder emptying) offers greater detail. The vaginal scan uses a slender probe and is gentler than cervix examination with a speculum (duck-bill instrument). For fertility concerns, a vaginal ultrasound is usually recommended.

Our team of doctors, sonographers, and caring staff is committed to providing best-practice care in a supportive environment. We look forward to assisting you with your ultrasound.

  • Bladder Preparation: Drink 2 glasses of liquid about an hour before your scan for a moderately full bladder.
  • Cycle Timing: If you menstruate regularly, schedule your scan between days 5 and 11 of your cycle. Track your cycle and let us know the first day of your last period.
  • Personal History: Be prepared to share details about your period length, cycle frequency, hormone use, and any past surgeries.
